The Huia Rugby Football Club Story

Our Vision

"To be a successful, progressive and sustainable sporting club, providing multi-sports services to the community"

Our Story

Huia Rugby Club was founded in 1901 and been a prominent sporting club in the Motueka and surrounding community; fielding rugby teams in most grades from U6 (midgets) to Division One (Senior A), including multiple netball teams.  Huia continues to field Senior and Junior teams in rugby and netball.  In recent times we have experienced good growth in our junior levels.  Our aim is to maintain a pathway which provides a natural progression for our Motueka High School students when they leave school.

The Future

Looking forward the Huia Executive Committee realize that we will need to keep changing with the times to survive and excel as a leading sporting club in the Motueka area. Our club objective is to relocate from our existing clubrooms to Sports Park. We see this as being a huge benefit to not only the Rugby Club itself but the community also.

Our clubrooms are already utilised by other community groups such as IHC indoor bowls, line dancing, dance schools and the book fair

With our new facilities we would look to attract more community groups to maximise its potential.
